The West African Bankers Association (WABA) and the Participation Banks Association of Turkiye (TKBB) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on June 22, 2023 to cooperate in the fields of foreign trade, correspondent relations and digitalization, particularly in the development of the Islamic finance sector in Turkiye and Africa.

The MoU aims to promote the common interests of the parties through mutually beneficial cooperation between its member organizations and will support the development of Islamic finance in Africa and the capacity building activities of institutions serving in this field. According to the agreement, WABA and TKBB decided to work together to organize seminars, forums, conferences and other events related to developments in participation banking and finance.

In addition, this cooperation aims to organize joint training and exchange programs and contribute to direct correspondent relations between Turkey and African countries, both in the Islamic finance ecosystem and with financial institutions.
