KARZ-I HASEN WORKSHOP HELD AT MÜSİAD

The workshop started with the opening speeches of Mahmut Asmalı, President of MÜSİAD, İsmail Vural, Secretary General of Participation Banks Association of Türkiye, and Mehmet Koca, Chairman of the Founding Board of Trustees of Karz-ı Hasen Foundation. Muhammet Ali Özeken, President of MÜSİAD Karz-ı Hasen Fund delivered a welcome speech, and discussed the current status of Karz-ı Hasen, the theoretical and technical problems encountered and the future goals and practices in Türkiye and around the world.

 

In his speech, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı talked about the importance of the MÜSİAD Karz-ı Hasen Fund, which has been operating since 2016 and increasing its institutionalization day by day, in the eyes of society and the importance of being an alternative financing, especially for interest-sensitive people in Türkiye. Muhammet Ali Özeken, President of MÜSİAD Karz-ı Hasen Fund said "As MÜSİAD, we set out with the aim of institutionalizing Karz-ı Hasen, which is common in our society as an individual. In this process, we have supported hundreds of members of the fund and we have seen how important it is for society to institutionalize Karz-ı Hasen, which is an alternative method."

 

İsmail Vural, Secretary General of the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye (TKBB) noted "Speaking about the systematization and institutionalization of the Karz-ı Hasen institution throughout the country, as TKBB, we are striving for the legal basis and legislative work of Karz-ı Hasen with our knowledge and experience." Mr. Vural stated that the Karz-ı Hasen workshop would be beneficial for the stakeholders who came together and that they would be happy to fulfill their duty for all the activities that will take place in this field.

 

Mehmet Koca, President of Karz-ı Hasen Foundation, said: "We have come a long way over the years in this service, which we started under the name of Karz-ı Hasen Foundation and which provides financing to young couples who are getting married." Mr. Koca said, "When we look back today, we are very happy that the number of institutions serving the purpose of Karz-ı Hasen has increased in our country and that such a workshop was organized by MÜSİAD. I believe that it will be very productive to exchange ideas with so many people who are dedicated to this service".

 

The Karz-ı Hasen Workshop hosted by MÜSİAD and jointly organized by TKBB, MÜSİAD Karz-ı Hasen Fund, Research Center for Islamic Economics (IKAM), Association of Research and Praxis for Islamic Economics (IKSAR) and Karz-ı Hasen Foundation was attended by representatives from Interest-Free World Foundation, IHH Çeyiz Foundation, Günşığı Foundation, TKBB member banks and representatives from Türk Eximbank. In addition, many academics from Sakarya University, Istanbul University, Marmara University, KTO Karatay University, 29 Mayıs University, Karabük University and Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University who are experts in their fields also participated in the program.

 

During the one-day workshop, sessions were organized under the titles of "Turkish Practices", "World Practices", "Fiqh, Legal, Tax and Economic Dimensions of Karz-ı Hasen" and "Resource Generation, Resource Diversity, Resource Utilization and Corporate Sustainability". The workshop was concluded with the final session on "Implementation and Policy Recommendations".
